Hello !

I have specific scenario here. My Application developer has created an online app wherein, there is link called "Print" , when clicked, opens a new tab with the to-be-printed matter BUT ALSO WITH A PRINT TAB. Now I dont what this PRINT DIALOGUE BOX but just the print tab.

The Developer isn't ready to modify his script. Is there a add-on, or a modification somewhere where in I can Kill this Print Dialogue box ?

Currently If I close the print dialogue box, it goes away, also the newly opened tab goes away.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for reading this.

Regards, Mahesh

In theory, you can block sites from using the window.print() method by creating CAPS rules or using an add-on. I've never tried to set that up, but here are some links to get your research going.

Rule to block sites from popping up the print dialog (manually edit configuration file):

The Controle de Scripts extension:

I'm not sure if such CAPS rules are still supported in current Firefox versions.

Firefox 3.0 and earlier versions had a preference print.use_native_print_dialog ; true which could be toggled to false, but with Firefox 3.5 it was removed. When that pref was set to false the "print" command went directly to the printer, without the appearance of the dialog box.

It is possible to show a "printer-ready" window, because I see them frequently at many websites, so your developer needs to study up on how to display a "printer-ready" page and not trigger the appearance of the "native print dialog" box. Unfortunately, Firefox users no longer have control over the appearance of that dialog from within Firefox.

i have this problem also, i have to click on print, then my regular printer (finEprint) comes up and i have to click on this program to finely print. firefox is becoming more and more cumbersome to use. ever hear of 'too much of a good thing' the developer is apparently trying to force us to use it like he thinks is best. it ain't so.

HOW DO I GET RID OF THE FF PRINT DIALOG.

also, where is the 'stop page download' box? ff 22 was a lot better than this version.

thank you,

Hi WES2GAS, are you running Firefox 29 now?

In Firefox 29, the print icon on the menu now goes to Print Preview. If you want to bypass that, you have two choices:

  • Keyboard shortcut: on Windows Ctrl+p
  • File menu > Print (you can temporarily display the menu by pressing Alt+f, or you can customize Firefox to display the classic menu bar permanently, it's under Show/Hide Toolbars)

If you do not even want the old print dialog to display, I am not aware of a workaround for that. Maybe you can find an add-on.

Regarding the stop button:

At the right end of the address box, there is a chameleon button that shows X while a page is loading, the circular arrow after loading is completed, and a right arrow while you're typing in the address bar: stop, reload, go, all combined into one. This was introduced in Firefox 4 a few years ago, but you may have previously customized it to split it apart and move it out of the address box.

Starting in Firefox 29, the button has lost its ability to split and move. You can use the Classic Theme Restorer extension to hide the combined button and use separate buttons instead.

When you use its Options dialog, Main tab, there are a set of checkboxes on the right side to adjust the stop/reload icons.
