Hello. I was trying to find something in my history. Something I need very much. However, most results for the searched entry in my history were google search links. Since that has slowed my searching very much, I decided to right-click one of the google results and select "Forget about this site".

What a bad idea. Totally forgotten that anything you do in firefox is synchronous and will lag whole browser. I tried to wait till it finishes, but I'm in hurry so after a while, killed Firefox process, as I always do when it hangs (= very often).

Now, even opening the history makes the browser hang (but consumes no CPU, which means there isa bug in your code probably).

So there are two questions:

1. How to delete a site from history without browser being lagged for ages.

2. How to fix broken history so that I can use it again.

Thank you for any help - I'm in hurry and now I'm completelly helpless.

Here's a screenshot of how bad it is: http://u8.8u.cz/images/fflag.png

Edit: New lines still act quite weird. I was also wondering why do I always have to click so many times before I get to ask a question... It's super-annoying, espetially while already dissapointed/angry user is seeking for help.

1.go to firefox > history > show all history. 2. click on link and then right click and tap to delete option. so apply this method and be happy

Could you explain this further? It sounds like you're proposing to delete every individual entry - I hope I get you wrong...

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Man, you're just doing your best to make me real upset. I guess you want me to use some dirty language so that I get banned here.

Please, read my first post and delete your post right after you do that. Your reply is very useless - I consider it a spam.

Hi Jakub Mareda

It is easy to just delete single entries. It appears you need to try something that deletes more than a single entry but less than one site.

And for the benefit of other readers of this thread:

There is an option that can be useful and that is to forget about a site. Just be aware it may delete slightly more than you expect as for instance selecting forget about this site on

Would remove everything for the site including maybe History of KB articles like

Now it appears you have tried that option and it is proving very CPU intensive and Firefox is struggling to do that.

I would suggest an alternative method may be to delete maybe a page at a time of the history entries.

Open the Library to view History items. Search for items including Google or whatever is appropriate. You will get many entries. Use right click and shift to select large blocks of entries and use the right click delete page option.

The History is stored in the database, places.sqlite Unlike the bookmarks that are stored in the same database Firefox takes no steps of its own to backup the History.

There is an addon that will generate a short report on the status of the database, and will attempt to repair it. You could backup the database manually by making a copy of the file places.sqlite and run the addon to

  1. get a report - it may throw some light on the issue
(Not that there is likely to be anything that can be done about it)
  2. to attempt a repair

Opening History should not cause Firefox to Hang. Possibly the datbase is corrupt. If the repair does not help you may need to consider temporarily removing the file or creating a new test profile.

What I would suggest you do besides backing up the database is separately manually backup your bookmarks on a frequent regular (say every one or two weeks) basis. If the database is corrupt bookmarks are in danger of being lost.
