My Thunderbird started freezing up (not responding) about a month ago. It eventually starts up again but as soon as I select an e-mail it freezes again. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled and got the same results. I haver deleted all my messages, uninstalled and then defragmented the hard drive. Reinstalled a completely new download of TB (31.3.0) When it opens it has all of my messages and connections from before. It also still has the problem of freezing up (lasts about 5-10 minutes) It will not even shut down until that time is gone.

None of these Antivirus solutions had any effect. I then took out all the Accounts and account related files in Thunderbird. I uninstalled Thunderbird and deleted all references to Thunderbird. I defragmented the hard drive and then re-installed a fresh download of Thunderbird from the Mozilla site (same number but did it to ensure I had the latest) I did this first on my older computer where the problem first started. It then seemed to be working normally. That seems to have taken care of the issue.

After a few days I then did the same with my new computer that hadn't had the problem until a few days after it happened to the older one.

It is appears to now be working normally.
