the gsuite accounts are enabled for IMAP and POP. Google says that the server is imap.gmail.com; port 993, SSL and OAuth2. All good--I got the certificates to load. However, when I go to check the email, Thunderbird returns an error: "Authentification error when trying to connect to server imap.mydomain.com" (NOT The imap.gmail.com domain). why does thunderbird change the imap server? can that be controlled? how can I access my mail on the guites account (that is not user@gmail.com)?

Thanks!

Thanks. leads helped quite a bit. turns out that one MUST enable (turn on) via the admin.google.com Less secure app access Once that is on, do not use manual account, but add an account and thunderbird will then walk thru the authentication.

Less secure apps is not required for oAuth authentication.
