Do you mean that you can't set google as new tab page? That's correct, there's only 2 options: default and blank.

Start/homepage is set to www,google.com New tab is set to open start/homepage ~ New tab does not open to start/homepage :( New window does open to start/homepage :)

That's incorrect.

Homepage and new windows is set to www,google.com New tab is set to open Firefox Home Default (about:home).
