Hi - when I get a new email, a small envelop in the systray let's me know. After I go to TB & view the message, the envelop doesn't go away. I can click get mail and it will go away, but how can I get it to do so automatically?

Also is there a way in Vista to get the tab for TB at the bottom of my screen to blink when a message comes in as notification? With Comcast webmail the tab does that.

Thanks!

What x? When I click the envelop, nothing appears. Right click, nothing too.

When I mouseover it lets me know 1 mail has arrived, in the mouse over bar. That's about it.

thanks

Okay, that gives me info. Thanks! Image 1 pops up only if you're set to receive an alert (i.e. Image 2). I set that on and get the alert and also the popup when I press the envelope. However when I press the x in the alert, the envelope doesn't go away. The popup alert goes away, but the envelope stays.

So I'm looking for a way to know a new message has arrived. I don't want an alert popping in front of my screen. I don't want a noise. The envelope doesn't catch my eye, and I'd rather it blinked, but it'd be good enough....

.....However... the envelope doesn't go away after I've looked at TB & my new message. So it's not letting me know about -only- new messages! It turns on for the new message, but then never turns itself off??

1) Why doesn't the envelope turn off based on looking at my email? Can I make it do so?

2) Can I make it blink or or make the TB tab blink... something to catch my eye the way Comcast did... but without noise, or intrusion onto the screen that an alert does?

Thanks

On more investigation, when switching to TB after getting new mail envelope... if I click on the mail, envelope stays... BUT if I mark the mail read, envelope disappears.

So how to I get it to disappear based on something else such as my going to TB at all, or clicking to preview the message. I don't want to mark it read, nor to have to click a few times on and off to let the system know I've read it....

Here's a mozilla bug about it - but from 2004 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=272328

The last entry is from 2013 "Nine years later, and this is still confirmed happening."

My solution so far --

- Click the last email received, then toggle the mark as read/unread icon (in the toolbar), envelope turns off. Even if multiple emails received, this works using just the last one.

- Could use a blinking envelope. Found an app, but it doesn't seem to work. Blinking tab would be nice too. Odd because it shouldn't be hard to change that envelope to a blinking type.

- I wish it was easier to get from the mail Mozilla page, to the help forums to search for past entries. Beyond Edward who tried to help, there haven't been any responses here.

I find just waving my mouse over the little icon makes is disappear.

Matt - that's great that it happens for you. It doesn't disappear when I wave over it. What OS are you using? I'm using Vista 32, TB is uptodate. What notification settings? Alert on or off? Sound on, off?

Meanwhile, if I get mail when I get to TB or toggle off the last email received, the env does go away.
