Firefox Sync won't import my bookmarks from other computer
Ok....so whats up with Firefox Sync? Does it not work? I installed Windows 8.1 on my new computer. I didn't export my old bookmark list because all my passwords/websites/bookmarks were supposed to by Synced with Firefox Sync.
Does this program not actually sync to a database anywhere? Or did I just trust that this program actually synced information and just got burned? Is this program just a nice way to see what we are looking at, or does it actually have a practical use for us end-users?

Is the old computer running Firefox 29 or 30? If not, you need to update that old PC, and then update that older Sync account. See this KB article - Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more Then the new installation of Firefox should be able to Sync.
If that isn't helpful please provide additional information. Such as, if you don't have that old device any longer and it was using an older version of Firefox; if it hadn't been updated to at least Firefox 29 you can't access your data without installing Firefox 28 and then updating.
Sync does connect to the Sync server to download sync data, but there is a certain procedure that needs to be done when going from Firefox 28 (or older versions) to a Firefox 29 and later version.
To answer your last question; only you can view your Sync data, your data encrypted when it is off your devices and only you have the "key" for that data. Yes, Sync is useful for end-users, but Sync wasn't intended to be used in lieu of a physical backup when transitioning to a new PC.
