Ok, I have the Mail Tab and the Calendar Tabs always up. In the calendar tab I always select MONTH view. Now, in Windows 7 Ultimate if I leave Thunderbird (close program) and then return, sometimes it will have kept the month view, but often it has gone back to the day view. I need to know how/where to make sure the month view is the DEFAULT view. Thanks.

OK, OK, I know Lightning is SUPPOSED to remember the last used calendar view from what I have been reading online. BUT IT IS NOT DOING THIS! Seems like EVERY damn time I start it seems to pick a random view or something. I NEED this to be remembered PROPERLY. I NEED a way to tell Lightning ONLY this view at start. PERIOD. Otherwise I may ditch Lightning completely and remove from TB and go with a separate app that CAN remember the last view used.

Lightning always remembers the last view here. This is a guess, are you running CCleaner?

Where is "here"? And, yes I do use CCleaner, BUT the ONLY items checked in that area are these: Internet Cache Internet History Download History Compact Databases These are the only "cleaning" items checked for Thunderbird in my CCleaner.

Then try to uncheck all of them. Regardless of whether this fixes the problem or not, leave them unchecked. CCleaner has no business messing with the Thunderbird profile. If you feel like you need to clean the cache do that from within Thunderbird.

Only problem is that is over 2 weeks since last use of CCleaner, and even before I used it Lightning was flaky. NO MATTER WHAT, I select the view I prefer, which is MONTH. OK. Now, rarely after say a reboot or after start up after system has been off for a while go back to Lightning, and guess? It might be on DAY, or WEEk but hardly ever is it on the last view used. It simply IS NOT REMEMBERING IT AT ALL, or like stated once literally in a blue moon it migth actually be where I left it. So, I need to know WHERE EXACTLY does Lightning store that info and is there a way to prevent it from being altered unless I altered specifically? I mean according to the "hype" it is supposed to remember last view used. So, why can't it? Like I said it was doing this even before I ever ran CCleaner.

Anyone?

As christ1 described, all three of my Thunderbird/Lightning installations remember correctly the last view used. So I think it works, and you still have something odd going on with your machine. And that's why you're unlikely to get any straightforward answers.  :(

I can't ask you to run in Safe Mode as that would disable Lightning. So, what other add-ons do you have? Can you try disabling your other add-ons?

IIRC, localstore.rdf saves window layout. That's the first place I'd look for such a failure to restore a view.

These are the add-ons installed other than Lightning: Calendar Tweaks Import/Export Tools MessageNotePlus Remove Duplicate Messages (Alternate) Send Later Xpunge

Now a wee bit of background before anyone tries to hang one of those add-ons. They ALL have been working FLAWLESSLY with PREVIOUS Lightning and Thunderbird. As in the fact that all was well in Thunderbird v31.x and Lightning 3.x also worked when briefly was TB 38 and Lightning 3.x, when Lightning 4.x came out that is when it started to flake out. So, something with 4.x is "wrong" other peoples installs not withstanding. Something changed in the 4.x branch that is incompatible with one of the add-ons. Which as stated prior to the 4.x they ALL worked fine and got along quite well with Lightning.

And, as I use all those add-ons, I cannot see getting rid of them. And have checked, and found no updates to them.

This issue is basically now pushing me away from Lightning. I originally a long time ago used a separate cal app alongside TBird. I am beginning to believe that I may have to remove Lightning after I export my calendar and once again use a 3rd party calendaring program. Which sucks, because I kind of like this all in one idea. But if Lightning is no longer going to play nice with add-ons I use, well...

Besides, as you can see there is only ONE add-on dealing with cals...Calendar Tweaks, and all that does is add features which really should be part of Lightning and are not.

Why not try with Calendar Tweaks disabled? It's getting on for a year old. Lightning has been updated and this addon hasn't. Maybe you need to be hassling its author. Your call.

OK, just to see mind you I have disabled Calendar Tweaks. See what happens. Other than the obvious and that being my cal looks so plain now.

Well, so far every time I have checked, it has indeed retained the last view. So, I guess I will have no choice but to not just disable Calendar Tweaks, but I will now have to remove it. Alas, it had a long run with me.

Do tell the author of Calendar Tweaks about your issue.

Well it is still now working correctly. And yes, I sent the author an email just a couple minutes ago.

Well, as of last night, I am now using a BETA of the revised version of Calendar Tweaks sent to me by the author. And, so far, is working FLAWLESSLY. So, now my calendar looks better again.
