When on Facebook today... I clicked on a "emotion icon" (smiley face) thinking I could choose one. However, it took me to another website. I clicked on of it. But now the Emoticons keep popping up. How can I get rid of it?

Hello! Make sure that these solutions help:

1. Restore your Firefox

2. Use uBlock Origin instead of Adblock

If it persists, continue, but are procediemntos deeper:

3. Change the profile of your Firefox, just abrier the Run Windows and enter firefox.exe -p

4. Uninstall Firefox and download through this link https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ or https://firefox.com

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Rather than attach images as had problems to send some, I'll put links to the corresponding numbering I mentioned above:

1. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings

2. https://addons.mozilla.org/pt-br/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

3. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

4. I believe that does not require tutorial

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

If that doesn't help, the smiley may have linked you to some malware, so you can try scanning with these free programs which work with your existing antivirus software:

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
