A few days ago I started having an issue with streaming media (youtube seems unaffected, vids in fb also are unaffected) When I'm playing something, and switch tabs to do other things while media plays in the background, the video freezes but the audio continues to play. This does not happen when playing vlc outside of firefox. I have cleared my cache and cookies, cleared network cache, eliminated all addons and extensions, and got rid of flash. Nothing is working. I can't find any other resources to help. I'm using windows 7, have checked for malware and viruses (none), everything is updated.

Youtube currently uses the HTML5 player.

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
