To inspect their contents, you can drag and drop one onto this page:

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/scrounger.html

Please reload the page before checking the other one (or use a separate tab).

Whichever one is better, you'll:

  • exit Firefox
  • rename the new sessionstore.jsonlz4 file to sessionstoreOLD.jsonlz4 -- this will be at the main level of the profile folder, not in the sessionstore-backups folder*
  • copy in whichever file you want to substitute and name it sessionstore.jsonlz4 -- it should appear in alphabetical order next to sessionstoreOLD.jsonlz4
  • start Firefox and, if necessary, Restore Previous Session

Success?

* If someone reading doesn't know about the profile folder, see: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

Thanks so much, this worked!

Edit: curious, why keep the old file sessionstoreOLD.jsonlz4?

Two reasons:

(1) So you can immediately see the new file is in the right place, and

(2) Any time I tell someone they can delete something they later say they needed it! So, self-protection. ;-) But you don't have to keep it if you don't want to.
