can't add other google calendars [solved]
I can't add a google calendar that was recently shared to me. I do New>Calendar.... When I get to the the list of calendars associated with my account there is nothing there.
I've done this before. I currently use Lightning with Provider and see my wife's calendar, the town's calendar, the Patriot's calendar. None of those are now in the list
Linux Mint 17.3; TB 52.9.1

Solved. Delete all google calendars and tasks. Restart TB. Add new calendar again.
Apparently, something went wrong with the existing "session" associated with my email address. Uninstall/Install Lightning and Provider did not work because it still came up offering the same session associated with my email. Finally when I was able to File>New>Calelndar>Network>Google and did not see my email address, but had to provide it fresh, it worked.
I had to create a dummy local calendar in order to delete all the google calendars (can't delete only calendar.)
Stumbled on it here: [https://support.mozilla.org/de/questi.../1230294]

Lets eliminate the obvious.
is the word calendar below the small moth view calendar on the left. Try clicking it.
Yes, but when I do New>Calendar>Network>Google>MyEmail none of those calendars are listed. No calendars are listed.

No calendars are listed.
I just muddled through adding a calendar to Lightning with the google provider add-on. I have never done it before, I have always used caldav for google as I do not need my task list synchronized.
When I opened the option to list calendars
a secondary dialog opened asking me to log into Google.
Once I completed the login phase the original list populated and the process could continue.
I have found these secondary login dialogs sometimes appear in the background of my second monitor and I do not find them for hours until I close the program that is on that monitor.
No second dialog pops up. How do you use caldav? I tried to add my calendar with caldav using "Public URL for this calendar Use this URL to access this calendar from a web browser" It worked except the caldav version of my calendar is grayed out and I can't show it.
I am guessing that your anti virus or popup blocker will be causing problems here. First check what add-ons you have installed, and disable all but lightning and the provider. See if that allows a pop up to appear. Have you actively turned off cookies in Thunderbird perhaps?
CALDAV for google is a two step process.
1. determine the caldav endpoint at google for the calendar.
This starts with the url https://apidata.googleusercontent.com/caldav/v2/ to which the google calendar ID is appended.
Getting the calendar ID requires you log into your gmail calendar with a browser and go into the calendar settings. click and then Settings. In the section Integrate calendar you will find the calendar ID for the calendar.
2. Put the two parts of the URL together and place it in the new calendar on the network dialog.
The authentication will be the same as for the provider, just required later in the process. Therefore I think you need to concentrate on what is causing the problem, not some sort of work around.
I refreshed FIrefox to default settings. Turned off TB addons except Lightning and Provider. Popups are allowed if FF. No anti-virus (Linux). Cookies allowed. No joy. I can get the provider dialog to show by tricking it. I enter a fake email for a new calendar. In the provider dialog I give it my real email. Still no list of calendars. I tried caldav with my main calendar and the one that was recently shared to me. Got the google dialog and the calendars appear in TB and I can select them but they don't show. Both have a yellow bang saying momentarily unavailable.
I would be tempted to reinstall Lightning and Provider but I fear I would lose everything.
