I often want to save news stories to my local computer. But starting with Quantum, it takes HOURS for even a single-page news story to finish downloading! All other downloads are very, very fast using Quantum and all browsers. All news story web page downloads in ALL other browsers, including pre-Quantum Firefox, finish in seconds or less.

Why is Quantum Firefox so screwed up when trying to do this? Why does it take HOURS to download a single-page news story, regardless of which outlet produced the story?

Hi GernuineAdvantage, is this when you first try to open/view the page, or when you try to Save Page As to download it?

Many news sites have a ton of ads and social features which can cause Firefox to bog down. If you've never considered using add-ons that streamline your browsing by reducing certain nonessential content being retrieved into a page, you might want to give it a try. For example:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

As with any content-blocking feature or add-on, there will be times when some pages do not work correctly with only partial content. Check the add-on's toolbar button for options to manage those situations, such as making an exception for that page.

Does that make any difference?

It is possible that security software (anti-virus, firewall) is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.
