how to stop quick filter?

So I routinely use the Quick Filter to search through e-mails. But I'm looking through a mail file that is very long. How do I stop Quick Filter when it has found the message I'm looking for?

That is, I want to look for the last message from JoeBlow. I do a Quick Filter for JoeBlow, and it quickly comes up with the last message. But then it grinds on and on and on, looking for ALL the JoeBlow messages in my message file. By the time it is done, a few minutes later, it has found a dozen of them.

How do I tell it to STOP!? THAT'S THE ONE I'M LOOKING FOR! STOP LOOKING AND LET ME EXAMINE IT!

There must be some command that tells it to stop looking. Or, how can I tell it to just look over a limited time interval?

I don't know how to interrupt the Quick Filter, but if you right-click the folder, Search Messages, you can search for mail in a specific time frame as shown in the attached picture, e.g. all messages from JoeBlow in the last month. Save as Search Folder if you do this frequently (using Age in Days instead of Date may be more flexible).

Thank you. Search Messages sure does the trick. I'm not even sure I was aware of that function. I'll start using it instead of Quick Filter. The fact that Quick Filter doesn't ask for a date range is really pretty inconvenient.
