Since the Presidents' Day weekend I have been unable to logon to the Fifth Third Bank website from my computer. Several calls to the bank's customer service confirm that many patrons are having the same problem. Today's call elicited that their tech support is still having problems with Firefox, Safari, and other browsers. The website is https://www.53.com and the customer service telephone number is 1-(800) 972-3030. Can the tech people at Firefox/Mozilla find a solution to this problem? Please help. Many customers are in the same boat.

What happens when you try to log in -- is there a specific error message? Or does the site just return to the login page?

If you haven't already, could you test in Firefox's Safe/Troubleshoot Mode? In that mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

You can restart Firefox in Safe/Troubleshoot Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)

and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

Any improvement?

Thanks for your rapid response, JEscher. I haven’t yet tried your suggestions but will.

Did I mention that this issue is affecting any of that bank’s customers who use Firefox, Safari, and some other browsers. I personally also tried Vivaldi and Opera, and neither of them worked, either. So, it’s a much broader problem than Firefox on my computer.

I try every day to logon to see whether Fifth Third has corrected the problem, but no success so far.
