Browser crashing since latest update

My Firefox browser automatically updated a few days ago. Since the update, the browser now crashes repeatedly during basic browsing, making Firefox essentially unusable. For instance, retrieving Yahoo mail, reading articles, accessing login pages -- the page will enter some type of refresh/reload cycle and crash the browser.

I opened the browser in troubleshoot mode and the problem did not occur. Following the Mozilla instructions, I disabled extensions and reopened the browser normally, and the crashes continued. I have not taken any additional actions.

This problem began immediately after the latest browser update on 9/13.

Norton Security Ultra

The Norton extensions were all disabled when the crashes continued in normal browser mode. The only other extension listed (also disabled at the time) is Amazon Assistant.

I don't have any other user accounts. The problem occurred when signed in and not signed in to a Mozilla account.

Just create another windows user account or use the Administrator account just to see if Firefox goes boom. Can you disable Norton, reboot and try again.

Try upgrading your graphics drivers from the manufacturer's site. You might need to disable hardware acceleration.

I tried those suggested solutions and the problem persists. I also refreshed Firefox as instructed and the browser continues to crash as before. I don't know what the solution is at this point except to ditch the browser I've enjoyed for many years. This is a ridiculous thing to have happen following a simple update.

You said Troubleshoot Mode works so it should work if you disable hardware acceleration.

Have used it for 2-3 years with no issues, mainly for work and general use. No gaming, added drives or hardware, etc.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

This could be about a Full-browser crash on visiting site with a particular kind of bad webfont.

  • GraphicsCriticalError: [G0][GFX1-]: Failed sanitizing font 2 (t=2.8803)

Can you try a different default font ?

Make also sure you allow pages to choose their own fonts.

  • Settings -> General -> Language and Appearance -> Fonts -> Advanced

Here are other crash reports from some previous instances. This has happened when I open Yahoo mail, log into my bank account, (ironically) scroll down to read the crash reports, etc.

Did you already check for current drivers? https://www.acer.com/us-en/support/drivers-and-manuals Also try another version of Firefox and make sure to install in a different directory. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/

Does it still happen if you go to about:config in the address bar and change layers.acceleration.disabled to true then restart the browser?
