The Ubuntu package support is broken
On Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS: The package system is broken Check if you are using third party repositories. If so disable them, since they are a common source of problems. [No: fresh snap install] Furthermore, run the following command in a Terminal: [sudo] apt-get install -f

Ubuntu has converted all applications to SNAP in their 24 release I think it is. This some sort of sand boxed application system and I have seen many issues raised by Ubuntu users and downstream distributions since this change.
Thunderbird offers a non snap installer for Linux, perhaps use it. https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/
