have done as perseus says,

ie type about:config in the address bar

Then in the filter box type dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll.

Then change the value to false.

but when it comes up i cant see where to change the value to false !!

any help please ?

To stephan. Just hit the space bar. the value should change to false and also say user defined. If Realplayer makes an update and the downloader stops functioning again, then I will revisit dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll

heh perseus, thanks for that but just tried that and nothing seems to change!!

any advice? thanks again stephen

To Stephan:

After you bring up dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll in the filter box, you will see the same below the filter box with the values. 1st, left click once on that line to highlight the values, then double clicking anywhere on the line to change the values. I just tried it and it works. I can change the values back and forth. When done, close firefox and restart.

heh perseus, thanks once again for your advice but i dont know whats wrong but im not getting this, after i have brought up the dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll. i then get a page that has a line which says from left to right preference name, status, type and value,

when i right click on any one of these boxes there is a small arrow on the right hand side which changes between pointing up or down,

when i right click on any of these a drop down menu appears with the following modify, copy, copy name, copy value, new and reset, but only new is highlighted ! if i click on new i get three options, string, integer and bolean

can you please tell me where i am going wrong

thanks again for all your help stephen

I've done all this and I've changed the value to false, and now the little "Download this video" bar appears, the downloader appears but it says "unable to download". And this is happening with every video I try to download... Is there anything else that can be done. The same happens with IE8 My Real Player version is 1.1.1 Should I update?

To Chusa- Yes, update to Realplayer 1.1.4 I first had your problem with the "unable to download" message. I upgraded to V1.1.4 and problem solved. Then Firefox updated to V3.6.6 and downloader did not work again. I used the solution 'Anonymous' posted on another blog, and it worked.

To Stephan- We both have Realplayer 1.1.4 and Firefox 3.6.6 correct? I am running XP, you? If Vista or Windows 7, I don't know if Firefox responds the same way when you try to change the values. I downloaded 15 videos yesterday. As I type this, in another Firefox tab, I entered About:config, then dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll, then left mouse single clicked to highlight dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll below the 'preference name' line. I then rapid double clicked anywhere on the highlighted line and the value changes back and forth between status=default, type=boolean, value=true and the desired value of status=user set, type=boolean, value=false. I have a small box with a down arrow in it on the right side but it doesn't change when I change the value. If I click on that box, the drop down menu has status, type, value, restore defaults. I don't use it. I seems to set what values are displayed when you type in the filter name. Other than this , there isn't anything else I can suggest for you.

Yippee! Hey everyone, perseus' solution works. I thought I had lost my Real Player forever. Either go back to previous version of FF or just deal with it, was what I thought, now I don't have to do either. Thanks so much perseus:)
