When I bookmark a page and save it to a bookmark folder, the bookmark does not get saved into that folder located in the bookmark toolbar. The bookmarked page only appears under Recently Bookmarked.

The problem occurs because the bookmark folders that are shown in the bookmark toolbar do not match the bookmark folders that appear under bookmarks located in the menu bar. They are apparently are not synchronized.

"Showing on the screen" means when Firefox is up on the screen at the lower edge of the toolbar, the folders used to show in that location.

No, I didn't mean IE favorites. I try not to use IE if possible.

  • Open the bookmark in a tab and click the highlighted star to open the "Edit This Bookmark" window
  • Click the arrow at the far right of the Folder field in the "Edit This Bookmark" window to access the complete folder list and see in which folder that bookmark is located.

I have solved this problem by customizing the bookmarks toolbar. I did this by right clicking on the main menu bar, then selecting customize. Next I dragged the bookmarks icon to the bookmarks toolbar. Now when I updated the bookmarks in folders in the main menu, they are in sync with the bookmarks icon located in the bookmark toolbar.

This solution will open a bookmark sidebar, rather than a pulldown menu when the icon is clicked in the bookmark toolbar. The sidebar will need to be manually closed after use.

The solution posted December 11th only updates the bookmark folders located under bookmarks in the main Menu Bar and not the bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar. See post above for an alternate workaround solution.

Thanks for trying to solve the initial problem.

After a tech changed my hard drive (old one failed) he had the information temporarily stored on his drive. After he moved the stored info onto the new drive it didn't appear as folders on the screen yet they show in Bookmarks Toolbar?

So how do I get them to appear as I used to have them?

Firefox stores the bookmarks in an SQLite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder

I'm not sure hat you mean with showing on the screen.
Can you try to clarify that?

Do you mean the IE favorites?
Those are maintained by IE and not used by Firefox.

Hi theon, bookmarks can display in several places:

(1) Bookmarks drop-down menu on the classic menu bar (File, Edit, View...)

(2) Bookmarks drop-down menu from a button on the Bookmarks toolbar or on another toolbar

(3) Bookmarks sidebar

Which of these sounds the closest to what you want?
