In firefox 3 I used to be able to right-click on a tab and choose bookmark this tab. Then a dialogue box will open and I could choose in which folder to save the bookmark. In firefox 4.0 this option is not there and clicking on the star saves the bookmark to unsorted bookmarks which means that afterwards I have to remove it, which is waste of time. Is there a tweak to bring back on this option?

Click on the bookmarks star a second time and you can edit the bookmark, placing it where you want.

Thank you TonyE for the tip. It's sad that I have to click twice than once when FF 4 is supposed to make things generally faster. I guess I have to get used to it. I also found out that pressing control & d brings the dialogue box on.

Another disadvantage of the omitted "bookmark this tab" function is that you cannot bookmark a tab when it is not the one that is active (between several tabs). Before one could bookmark a tab while looking into another page. I wonder if there is a tweak to bring back this function....

Very good point, LASCETIC.

Again, more poor Software Design from FF4 -- why don't you consider your users before making ill informed design changes like this.

If its not broke, don't even TRY and fix it.

I use Bookmark This Tab exactly the way Lascetic has described, when dealing with 40-60 tabs open (heavy researcher!!) , i don't want to move the mouse off the tab bar.

But now i have to.

Yet another reason why FF4 should be renamed "FireFox Flawed"

Come on FF DEV Guys,,,, do us a favour not a DISSERVICE!!!

Where do you get your training anyway, to come up with stupid ideas that make our lives harder???

  • "Bookmark This Page" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of that browser page.
  • "Bookmark All Tabs" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of a tab on the tab bar.
  • "Bookmark All Tabs" (Shift+Ctrl+D) no longer shows in the Bookmarks menu unless you open the Bookmarks menu via the keyboard (Alt + B).

A new addon that brings back the "bookmark this tab" option can be found here

cor-el what you say is correct. Also one can drag and drop the tab into the bookmarks. However, both these options will bring the tab in focus which may be not always desirable.
