Before the upgrade, I backed up the entire c drive but I cannot find where the bookmarks are filed. What sub directory are the kept in and if I find them, can I just copy them into the new location?

Bookmarks are stored in the places.sqlite file in your Profile folder.

OK Thanks for the input but I am a real dummy so I need the easy way. I searched for "places.sqlite" and found nothing.

Then I tried the run command "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\" and found "C:\Users\Bill Spaulding\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\au7gf36k.default" and in there I found the "places.sqlite" folder. In there I have .json and .sqlite files which I cannot open but a "help" window pops up telling me I need to download and use their program to scan the registry and open the files.

I was burned really bad before using these so called help programs so I stopped.

Could I go into my backup, find the places.sqlite folder and just cut and past it into my new install and have it work? I did not specifically create a bookmark backup as it instructed me to do (when all else fails read the instructions), I just copied the entire drive before I installed win 7 figuring, like in Internet Explorer, where I could later just copy the "Favorites" folder and all would be good.

Thanks in advance

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Yes, you can copy the file places.sqlite to the current default profile folder or restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder of your backup.
If you copy place.sqlite then make sure that you remove other places.sqlite files (like places.sqlite-journal) in the profile folder.
