I have seen this discussed since 2007 and tried many of the fixes that were suggested. I have changed the Sans Serif Font, disabled hardware acceleration, trouble shot compatibility, and probably a few other fixes that I can't remember. All of these changes kept the sans serif font from switching to a bold font, but the fix only lasted for a few minutes. What goes on?

You should update your graphics display driver to the latest version, see the Graphics section at the bottom of the Help > Troubleshooting Information page.

Try to disable "Morphological Filtering" in the Catalyst display driver.

  • Catalyst Control Center > Gaming > 3D Application Settings > Disable Morphological Filtering

I don't think that the display driver is involved. The video card is six years old and has the last driver that ATI wrote for it. I never installed the Catalyst Control Panel because they have a long history of creating problems. The usual advice on 3d forums is to install the video drivers without the Control Panel and that's what I did.

I've been using these drivers for quite a while and have only run into this problem in the last two days. Since I posted this, I've found a fix, even if it's imperfect. I've unchecked "Allow pages to choose their own fonts instead of my selections above". It changes the look of the page, and more to the point, I didn't need to do this last Wednesday.
