Ever since latest update to 14.0.1, the Location bar while typing suggests sites that I visited before, but have been cleared by me from the History, and are not Bookmarked. When I clear History, I would like it to permanently remove any trace of the URL's I choose to clear, even from the Location Bar, and not just from the History Library! How can I do this? Thanks!

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can try to check and repair the places database with this extension:

Hi, thanks for the reply, but none of the proposed solutions worked. I tried repairing the places database with the extension, and I also tried deleting the places.sqlite file and starting from scratch. Once I visit a website, it shows up in the Location Bar even after I delete it from the History library. It is not bookmarked. This was never the case before the latest update to 14.0.1

Deleting places.sqlite should delete all the history and if a site isn't bookmarked and visited then you shouldn't see it in the drop down list.

You can set the Boolean pref browser.urlbar.autoFill to false on the about:config page to prevent Firefox from trying to autocomplete sites in the location bar.

See "Prevent Firefox from automatically completing URLs":

I have noticed the same thing, and I think I have discovered when it occurs. When a connection is redirected, it will show multiple URLs in the location bar but only the last one shows up in the History sidebar for some reason.

To reproduce it, clear the history and then visit the URL [http://support.mozilla.org/questions/932530]. I get redirected to the secure URL [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../932530].

Then searching from the location bar shows 3 different history entries, but only 1 of them shows up in the History, as shown in the attached screenshot. And, perhaps worse, if you delete the one that shows up in History, the other 2 URLs will still show up in the location bar as auto-completion suggestions!

I think this is a bug. The History sidebar needs to show all of the history items. The location bar should not be showing history items that are hidden from the History sidebar.

I found those url stored in moz_hosts table in places.sqlite I don't know what exactly moz_hosts table is... anyway deleting register form that table, or deleting places.sqlite, solves the problem. But it seems a bug, please consider checking it.

Thanks
