I tried to download a podcast from the native site, by tapping the download link. This resulted in a blank new tab opening in firefox. Previously, when I hit the download link, the mp3 would start downloading automatically, and save in my playlist. . The address of the download was visible, but would not save or download.

I updated to the newest version of firefox, but same trouble. This is a new issue, as I have been downloading the same podcasts from the same sites, to my phone for a few years. Help, please!

It seems to me like the link is dead and I don't think its a Firefox error. Try using another browser and open the same link to see if you can open it. If you can, it might be some sort of adblock addon you've installed? Go through your addon's and make sure to update them all. Here's a direct link to upgrading your addons in Mozilla Firefox. https://www.mozilla.org/da/plugincheck/

Hi, thanks for the response.

The links are definitely not dead. They are fresh links to download new content, and work on other devices. This is an across-the-board issue with mp3 download links, only on my mobile device in firefox.

I disabled adblock, and checked that everything was updated. This does not seem to be the issue.

On Firefox for Android we've added a save media option to playback for MP3 and MP4 (video) files in Firefox Beta. You can access this by long tapping on the media and choosing save.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I downloaded the beta version on my android phone, and tablet. I am having the same issue on both devices, even using the new beta version of Firefox.

If I single tap on the "download here" link (which used to automatically download to my play list) it opens the link in a new tab, and automatically starts playing the mp3 content. This is not what I want.

If I long tap on the "download here" link, I do not get a "save" option. The options are

  • Open Link in New Tab
  • Open Link in Private Tab
  • Share Link
  • Bookmark Link

The link no longer opens to a blank tab, when I open it, but it starts playing on the device, instead of giving me the option to save.

This is getting frustrating, and unless a solution or easy workaround is readily available I will have to uninstall firefox on all my mobile devices. It's close to useless for downloading any mp3 content with the recent changes that have been made.

I too can confirm that the beta isn't helping. There was a suggestion when this question came up about desktop firefox 21 that might be useful.

it suggested "typing about:config into the firefox address bar", then searching for media.

I find media.autoplay.enabled and made it false.

STILL DIDN'T FIX IT ON FIREFOX FOR ANDROID

Frankly, the inability of Firefox to get a basic thing usable on its desktop version (Save File as against play FIle) and to NOT ANSWER FOR A MONTH is pathetic.

I tried several of the media settings and found that setting media.plugins.enabled to false changed Firefox to download mp3 links instead of playing them inside the browser.
