Facebook not working properly on Linux Debian Squeeze
Since the last week I cannot get to work facebook properly on firefox (im running it on debian squeeze). It started not loading facebook which was solved by deleting cookies and cache, but now I cannot "interact" with it, It loads the page, but i cannot accept requests, see comments, load other peoples profile, change security settings etc. Whenever i try to do something it keeps on trying to load but it never does
I was using firefox 15, I upgraded it to firefox 20 but the problem is still there.

Hi mariovrn,
I suspect that this is a problem with your Flash installation. So, maybe you have to update your Flash plugin.
- Check your current version: Plugin Check
- Check here on how to do it:
Install the Flash plugin to view videos, animations and games
Also, make sure that your Abode Reader installation does not conflict with Flash. To be sure try to reinstall all of them!
Hope that helped you! Please report back!
Thanks a lot for the fast reply, but unfortunately it didnt work. I already had the last version of flash, in any case i installed it again together with the adobe reader and did not solve the problem.
Its a bit weird though, it was working properly until last week, now every time i want to log into facebook i have to delete the cookies and restart mozilla, otherwise it will not load the page (which did not happen before). May that be related to the problem of not being able to do anything once the page is loaded?
I tried to block the cookies from facebook, but the bloody webpage doesnt let you sign in with the cookies blocked...
Hi marionvrn,
could you please try the Reset Firefox feature? The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
- https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
Hi again!
Alco, reseting firefox did not solve the issue neither, thanks anyway!
cor-el, starting it in safe mode neither, regarding the default theme is the one i am always using and doesnt work neither.
For the creating a profile thing, the instructions are for when firefox is already installed on the linux distribution or if it has been installed from the package manager. Its not my case, I have installed firefox myself (downloading it from the firefox webpage) so not sure if the proccedure will work as it should, can you confirm it?
In any case and in case it helps i have been doing some tests. Say i want to see the profile of my friend named XXXX, if i log in to facebook (after deleting the cookies and restarting it, otherwise it will not load the page), and I click on my friend XXXX's name to load his profile, it will not load.
However, if i go to his profile's address directly (say www.facebook.com/XXXX) it loads it but then i cannot do anything else as it will not load anything. It seems like once i load in a facebook page once i cannot do anything else unless y remove the cookies and restart firefox....
Hi mariovrn,
I suppose you have downloaded a compressed file, named firefox-xxx.tar.gz or firefox-xxx.rar etc..., and you extracted a folder which final path would be path/firefox/
Get into this directory with: cd /path/firefox/
Then you can use the following command to open User Profile Manager (and open a new instance) and then use the instructions provided in the article previously provided:
./firefox -no-remote -P
Thanks again guys,
However it didnt work neither. I dont have much idea, but may it have something to do with the OS? i tried other browsers and they behave exactly in the same way....
Assuming you are on a PC, try this. go to add/remove programs and look for something called Sendori. I just uninstalled it and will reboot. Dont know how this program gets installed, but we have had issues with this, it is a malware program and it is re-directing dns and certs. I notced when i did the exception it said cert was provided by Sendori
