It used to be that when I clicked on a link in webpage, a new page opens. Now, since the last upgrade, nothing happens...THEN I see at the top of the page that Firefox has blocked a "popup." But these AREN'T popups, they're requested new pages! To see them, I now have to allow ALL popups on just about every site, which totally destroys the value of the popup blocker because doing that allows REAL popups!

I appreciate your efforts to protect us, but by fixing things that weren't broken, you've broken them.

So please tell me how I can override your fixes without having to deal with 'em every time I click on a link in a website!

(You've also made it just about impossible to use any program that needs Java, but that's a subject for another thread! )

Normally, the pop-up blocker allows actions triggered by the user. Definitely if you click a link, it should not be blocked, unless there is something very strange about the link (for example, it's not a normal link but runs a very unusual script).

Is it possible that you've installed an extension that changes how pop-up blocking works -- or which attached popup ads to links? You can review and configure, disable, and/or remove extensions here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Alternately, you could test in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference, either way?

Thanks for the prompt reply! I think you solved it

When I went into Tools/addons/extensions, I discovered that I'd enabled the popup blocker extension in Adblock Plus. I've disabled it. I won't know if that worked till I click on a link on a page that I haven't "allowed" yet, which may take a couple of days. I'll definitely let you know!

Thanks again!
