While accessing various sites (espn.com, ign.com etc) I am unable to play videos. I notice that both sites "do not supply identity information. Your connection to this website is not encrypted". When I right click on the frame where the video is supposed to be I get an error stating "movie will not load". On other sites (youtube.com, yahoo.com etc) I am able to play videos just fine.

So far I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Java and Adobe Flash. Both are up to date per their websites. I have run antivirus and verified there are no viruses on my computer. I have uninstalled ad blocker and just about all other plug ins and reinstalled them one by one, checking each time to see if this would solve the problem.

Please help

You are getting the gray globe logo? The message that the connection was not encrypted is normal; not a problem since you're not exchanging anything confidential with them.

Are there any other notification icons in the address bar?

When I go to this page, there is a "pre-roll" video ad: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=10362549

Some sites will not play the real video if you block their pre-roll ads. You might need to create an exception in Adblock Plus.

One way to rule out extensions as a potential culprit is to try the sites in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (Flash and other plugins still run)

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

I appreciate the quick response. I uninstalled adblocker and the same issue persists. I tried in safe mode as well and still nothing. IE has the exact same issue. I have a laptop and am able to watch videos without any issues so my internet is working. It has to be something blocking adobe flash from loading on the page or something.

Do you use the same version of BitDefender on both of the computers (the one with the problem and the one without the problem)? If they are different versions, perhaps the problem is a feature/bug of the version of BitDefender on the problem PC. I believe it may have a feature of pre-filtering what is received by all browsers on the system. (It inserts itself as a proxy to filter web traffic.)

Sorry I am not familiar with Bit Defender. I did a search on the problem computer and do not see it anywhere.

Sorry, bad assumption on my part. I guess the Bitdefender extension listed in your More System Details is a freebie and isn't part of the full BitDefender product. Do you have any other security software that could be filtering your web traffic?

I use total defense security? not sure if that would filter my web traffic. Been using it for 2 years and never had any issues before.

I tried using the help site for that product and got very lost. It certainly tries to filter out annoyances such as pop-ups and phishing attacks, and something called mobile code. I don't know whether there is a way to easily switch those features off to see whether they are having any effect.
