On some sites Firefox because laggy with pauses before scrolling up or down, or using editing text is text boxes. I see this particularly often on Reddit (without enhancement addons), I can just be scrolling down and it'll freeze and lag for a few seconds.

The other problem is sometimes Firefox white screens, usually only for a short period. The whole screen goes white apart from stills of old youtube videos I've played, they show overlapping a bit at the top so you can usually see a few old videos in a stack.

Apart from these periods of lag Firefox works smoothly and normal.

Thanks.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Rename (or delete) the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
