Hello Debapriya, here is a screenshot
Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
- In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
- In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Hello Debapriya,
Thanks for your answer, but, first, these problems appeared as soon as I installed version 29, and before I added ANY add-ons.
Furthermore, I added in the following days only 2 add-ons, that is "LastPass 3.1.1" (passwords database) and "Wappalyzer 3.0.10" (add-on which indicates technologies of each internet site I am visiting). These add-ons were functional in my previous Firefox version... and I need them ! So having these add-ons desactivated is not a solution for me...
Is it possible to go back to a previous Firefox version ? What would be the URL os such previous version ?
Thanks in advance.
Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page (i.e. no authentication or signing on required) that have this issue with the characters?
You can do a font test to see if you can identify corrupted font(s).
You can also check the Character Encoding via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button at the right end of the Navigation Toolbar.
You can right-click on a web page and select "Inspect Element" to open the Inspector (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) and check the font in the Font tab in the right pane of the Inspector.
Hello Debapriya,
Thanks for your answer, but it has nothing to do with a LINK that would have this issue ! It has to do with the DISPLAY of this link on Firefox29. If I copy the link on another navigator, there is no display problem with it.
And if I come back, the next day, on this link with Firefox29, the display wiil eventually be ok.
This means that there is no corrupted fonts or code. This is a problem with the display in Firefox29, and, as I told you before, this problem happens randomly (and with Firefox29 only)...
Thanks

can you explain it ? I dont remember any suggestion like this that i've given to you.
Try the following steps
View-->Character Encoding-->Unicode
Report us back if this work!

Hello Debapriya.
1) answer to your last message : What do you want me to explain ? I have a font DISPLAY problem with Firefox29 which occurs randomly (and only with Firefox, not with Chrome, Safari, Opera or, even, IE where these pages display perfectly).
So your "suggestion" to open the inspector and check the font is irrelevant since other navigators find the requested fonts Your other "suggestion" : View-->Character Encoding-->Unicode has been done, and I comfirm that Unicode is selected.
2) in appendice à jpg of a public page on which this display problem just happened AGAIN a few minutes ago with Firefox29 The URL of this page is http://themeforest.net/
Thanks for your help.
That is likely a problem with the Helvetica font and variants like Helvetica Neue
- font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif
Try to uninstall these fonts in Windows to see if that helps.
Please read messages before answering :
"...this problem happens randomly ...and with Firefox29 only..." "...only with Firefox, not with Chrome, Safari, Opera or, even, IE where these pages display perfectly... "
So, Windows and uninstalling and/or re-installing system fonts is obviously not an issue.
You can at least give it a try as it is likely a problem with this font if you have Helvetica fonts installed.
This can be a problem with the font that is used to display the text.
You can do a font test to see if you can identify corrupted font(s).
You can try different default fonts and temporarily disable website fonts to test the selected default font.
- Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced
- [ ] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
