Chrome and Internet browsers work just fine. Only solution I found was to install flash player which I would rather avoid. Another response said the problem was because of beta version which is not the case here, and to clear cache/data which doesn't apply either because this is a brand new install of the app on this device. Why is Firefox not able to play these video streams where other browsers don't have an issue? Please look into this because it is one of the reasons I have not completely switched to Firefox for my mobile devices.

Chosen solution

Twitch sends a HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) stream to Chrome and Apple iOS Safari at the URL http://twitch.tv/<streamer>/hls as that is what they are beta testing. We do not have HLS streaming support yet but are looking into it. To use Twitch right now you need Flash or just use the native Twitch application on Android which is better functionally than their desktop site.
