Okay, so this problem started abruptly two days ago. I suspect my plugin is not working because Flash videos (Youtube and other streaming sites) are working on IE. I've tried reinstalling Firefox, disable and re-enable flash plugin, edited for protectedmode=0 and also disabled hardware acceleration. It just won't start working! I feel that deleting and reinstalling the plugin might help but there seems to be no option for that. Can you please guide me?

You are using an old version of IE. *giggle* Anyway I was messing with my network settings and it worked!! Change your DNS server address to any valid custom one(for example 8.8.8.8) [see Google on how to change your DNS]. With this the sites that weren't working are now functioning! Upvote this answer if it worked for you guys. :D

Even html5 doesn't seem to be working on Firefox. Also I checked on IE, it seems only YouTube is working.

Dailymotion is working, using the flash plugin. The other site I'm referring to is kissanime.com (html5 and flash videos) not working. I also installed Chrome to check if it only is a FF problem or not. Youtube works on Chrome using html5, but kissanime doesn't.

If you use extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Tried all of the above. Didn't work. The weird thing I'm finding is that some of the video player sites are working(dailymotion, crunchyroll) but Youtube and other flash stuff(like kissanime) isn't working on Firefox. EDIT: Facebook videos(their own video player) are also working, but the embedded YouTube videos on FB are not.

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Nope, still no change. I tried accessing kissanime.com from Chrome too and it doesn't load there. Can you suggest some other sites to check whether this is a browser related problem or Flash on my system? Also suggest something else I can do so that atleast youtube starts working on Firefox. Do you need any additional software details?

I am facing similar problems in windows 7 platform. I updated both my browser and my flash plugin yesterday and since then I am not able to play any video on youtube. Every time I start a video I get the message "An error occured, please try again". However, the same video works fine on Google Chrome.

I have tried all the above suggested methods, but no results. I also tried to revert back to FF 29.0.1 and shockwave flash player version 12.0.0.9. But I am still not able to play any video.

Same thing occurred in my laptop as well as on my desktop.

Don't know why the Mozilla community hasn't noted this problem. Is this problem region(India) specific? PS:Chrome uses html5 to run YouTube videos hence it works, while Firefox doesn't have h.264 support hence majority videos don't work in html5 mode for YouTube. I wish the experts take note of this problem.

I tried running the video on IE(8.0) as well. The videos are crashing there as well. Could it be some bug with the Flash Plugin? Although reverting back the flash plugin to some older version doesn't works either.

@RPGamer : Changing DNS server address to the Google DNS doesn't solves the problem either. I downloaded and tried flash player version 13 as well and the problem still exists.

Seems like once you have installed the latest flash upgrade there is no turning back. :-/

P.S. : I never bothered to upgrade my IE :P .

Try the latest version of IE(just do it for now, till YT works for you in Firefox). Update to the latest version of Flash and Firefox(30). Which DNS server address did you try? Try mine if you didn't.

Updates :

The solution suggested by RPGamer works perfectly when connecting to internet via LAN (broadband) or using window 7 dial-up connection with the dongles. Thanks buddy :-)

All websites are working fine. I am even able to download youtube videos via keepvid.com, which was not working earlier.

However, the solution doesn't works when I am connecting using the dongle's connection manager program. The DNS settings automatically reverts back to "obtain DNS server address automatically." as soon as I connect.

@harsh Spot on!! That's exactly correct, all the sites that had problem with video streaming for me used google redirector for streaming video (like a source), hence all videos from their servers were blocked. Looks like we got a taste of how it'd feel without YouTube(like in China).

The only way I found out of this problem -- stuttering video streaming with FF 30, Flash 14, running on Win 8.1 64 bit is not to use FireFox 30, but WaterFox 30 which is the 64bit version of FF.

Apparently, when using FF, I looked in the TaskManager and found 2 copies of Flash 14 in 32 bit mode. When using WaterFox, there is no sign of Flash in TaskManager and the program works as intended... NO STUTTERING OF VIDEO STREAM, not even from HBO Go.

Of the top, I would say that Flash 14 is designed for 64bit and working in 32bit environment affects it in a negative way.

So now my default browser is WaterFox. I have noticed that, although WFox 30 loads as fast as FF 30, some pages take slightly longer, but it would be imperceptible to most people other than folks who contribute to this forum. :)

Okay, this was driving me crazy as well. Out of nowhere, flash was not working properly. I tried everything. I uninstalled shockwave and abobe flash multiple times and reinstalled. I researched online for hours trying to figure out what could be causing it. The main thing is that video was not working on Facebook or Youtube. I did some more research, and came upon the suggestion that the flash plug-in may need to be manually installed. I went to the Adobe Flash Player Distribution page at http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html and I downloaded and installed both the EXE and the MSI Installer for plug-in based browsers. I restarted Firefox, and boom, everything worked fine! I hope this helps people and prevents you the hours of frustration I went through!
