Does this also happen if you use Windows Explorer to open those folders?
Do you when it happen? Or how? It could be Mal-ware.
It occurred right after I installed Firefox. when I click on the file, scroll down to rename, the file name shows up then disappears when i press enter.
Were you using Firefox, or a file explorer?
Is the file still there? If you select Rename, then press Enter nothing should have changed.
After I install Firefox the name of the files on my desktop and in the doc. folder was replace by the date created. When I scroll down to rename the name shows up, highlighted, then reverts back to the date.
Firefox should not have that kind of effect. It sounds like a system problem.
Open the file browser in the computer. Go to one of those files. Right click and select Properties. Tell us what it says on the main page, and the Details page.
Thanks for your help. the main page: in the window "the file name", the other items; location, size, date created, modified, all have the info. the read only and hidden boxes are not checked; the details page: Cat, comments, company, status, have no info; Program name-microsoft word, date created and modified have dates, Attributes- A.

What did the property say was the file name? Can you post a screen shot of both pages?
