After a recent upgrade to version 31 the show remote content button was replaced with a preferences button. Instead of a single click I now have to click the preferences button and then select show remote content. Two clicks vs one click sucks. I want my button back and I don't want to always show the content. Why did this change? I guess there was a reason but I don't like it and would like to change it back if possible. Is it?

Thanks Danneauxs

Chosen solution

It changed for a number of reasons. most obvious is the address book is a bad place for a white list.

Second this change allows you to permit domains for images as well as email addresses. given the prohibition is for security in the first place the source of the image is more relevant that the email address anyway really.

SO, there is not I want my single click button back. It is not going to happen. When the new address book comes with the release next year (I hope) it will not support the whitelist option at all so there will not even be an option of an add-on.

Ok, fair enough; security is the higher priority and now I understand. From my point of view it was I didn't want images to load on every message based on an address, domain or source but more on individual messages. Now I understand and since I never needed but wanted it's a non-issue.

Thanks for the help; always appreciated. Danneauxs

Please note that the "Preferences" button that replaces the "Show remote content" button is not always visibie (most probably a bug). In case you do not see it, please try restarting Thunderbird.

You are supposed to see the notification box below (please see uploaded image):

Couldn't the remote content button be replaced with two buttons? One with the previous default (Show Remote Content), and the other with all the other options.
