Firefox will not open a new tab using the menu toolbar or the + mark, even in safe mode with add-ons disabled

more options

Firefox will not open a new tab using the 'plus' sign or the menu toolbar. I can open a new tab by right-clicking the firefox icon at the bottom of the Windows desktop. However this is inconvenient. I read all of the posts about this problem and tried the recommended fixups, including safe mode and disabling add-ons. I still cannot get a new tab to open with the + sign or the menu toolbar. I deleted and re-installed Firefox and the problem persists. I am out of ideas. Thank you.

Chosen solution

Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox doesn't usually solve anything, because most problems are contained in the profile.

Based on the value of the keyword.URL preference, it looks like your system is either infected with malware, or was at some point in the past. You also seem to have a user JS file, which could prevent you from modifying certain preferences.
