Please go to history and Recently Closed Tabs or use Restore Previous Session.

You can check if the new tab is still set to the about:newtab page.

You can check the browser.newtab.url pref on the about:config page.

  • browser.newtab.url = about:newtab

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
