What was the source of the image? If you copied it in from a website in another Firefox tab, normally Firefox would embed an inline image tag using the URL of the source image. (This started in Firefox 12.) Is that broken now, or is the problem with images that don't have a URL?
It is a picture on the clipboard. Most of the time it is a screen scrape of a window for directions. When I go to try to paste the screen scrape nothing appears. I can do the same thing in older versions and in chrome but not in the newer nightly builds.
I'm not sure of the best way to get feedback on issues with Nightly. Perhaps try the nightly-testers mailing list to see whether others can replicate the problem? https://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/nightly-testers
