Can't install Lightning, I seem to have set the xpi file's "open with" to Thunderbird and can't undo it.

WIndows Pro 7 When I downloaded Lightning I was asked what I wanted to do with the file, options were Open With and save file, I chose Open With and then Thunderbird.exe Now I can't install the add-on, as soon as I double-click it it opens a new email with the add on as an attachment. How do I get out o the mess I've created?

Same thing here, only solution I was offered was - have you actually gone to the addon manager to install it. Tools menu (alt+T) > add-ons - Yes I have but still get the same as you. Hope someone replies to you with some help.

You do not Open an add on file, you install it from the Add Ons menu. Go to Add Ons. Once that screen opens there is a gear icon on the top margin. Click the gear and select Install from File.

Here are instructions with pictures.

Brilliant! Many thanks Airmail. Why can't these instructions be included in the Add-ons page?

Not sure. I guess that is what makes it free. :) I have better luck using Goggle to find answers for Thunderbird questions.
