I have normal sound in Firefox and get the incoming call tone, but when I click on the green 'answer button I get a small picture of myself (which is very slow to react to camera input) and I get no picture or sound from the caller.

I'm using Firefox v34 on Linux Mint v17 XFCE 32 bit on a HP Compaq D530 Pentium 4 2.8 GHz with 1 GB of ram. Skype Linux works as expected.

To make sure that the permissions from the caller's side is working, ask them to try the following:

  1. In the window of the page with the outgoing call click on the lock icon in the url bar.
  2. Select Permissions
  3. make sure that camera and sound are allowed.
  4. refresh the page and click allow in the page.

Does this help the camera and incoming sound?

Also both of you check the video phone options.

Without making any changes I now get a more-or-less still picture and some random noises. As though on a veerrrryyy slow computer.

I'm guessing that sound and picture means that cameras and microphones are working at both ends.

Is there any diagnostic mode I can enable?

I do not use those type of systems. I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.
