I copied the profile files and profile.ini from my Windows 8 computer to the same places n Windows 7 computer, but Thunderbird ignores these files and creates a new set of profile files.

Are there any absolute pathnames involved, or disk drive letters that need changing?

Maybe you could use the profile manager to "reconnect" Thunderbird to the required profile. Doing so might give a clue as to why it doesn't work, by comparing the entry generated by profile manager with what you had copied over.

I created a new profile and copied the files into it. That worked. Thanks for the tip.
