How do I tell if sync is ACTUALLY syncing? I have no way of knowing if it is working.

I updated Firefox and all my settings, bookmarks.... EVERYTHING was gone.

Ok.... so I update sync on both of my computers. I tell it TO sync.

How do I know that it IS? I don't have my bookmarks..... Should their be a spinny "syncing" icon? (if not, there should be)

What steps did you take to update sync? Were you on the previous sync before?

In this version there is an update to the Sync feature that requires old sync account users to create a new sync account. This is because the services were updated to a new server and interface. But never fear there is a way to still get a copy of the old profile if you still have the recovery key from the previous sync account, if not, if you have a back up of the profile you should be able to restore this to a new profile on the new sync account.
  1. [If you have the recovery key start here]Install an older version of firefox:Install an older version of Firefox
  2. Make a copy of the old profile folder. Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data and keep a copy of this file on the desktop.
  3. Install version 30 http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/and a new sync account .Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more
  4. Create a new profile and copy the old data to the new folder. Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

All set. If you have any questions, happy to help.

If there is no data in the local profile, this might be an issue. Do you have a back up of the profile folder from before you updated and synced? If so you may be able to restore the data to the previous version. Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

As for the sync progress, there is a time stamp that you can see in about:config for "lastsync" if you search in the filter of that page.
