why 3 copies of T-bird at startup?
When I startup Thunderbird 31.5.0 I get 3 copies. I've never made changes to any profiles or startup files. Any Tbird copy functions just fine however if I Exit any copy then all copies terminate.
Where is the Tbird startup file that controls how many instances are created? I only need one.
Thanks, Tom

Try using alt+F4 to close the unnecessary instances.
Thank you and that interim fix does work. However I'm asking how to stop the automatic creation of duplicate instances of Tbird at startup in the first place?
Where is the file that is creating these and how to change it?
Thank you very much for your help? -Tom
There is not a file to tweak. Before shutdown you just need to close down windows that you do not want to have opened on startup
Ummm, so because my computer shut down unexpectedly Tbird will automagically "assume" that the window "image" needs to be recreated as well as a new one at startup? That explains it but somewhere there is some sloppy coding to recreate unneeded instances I'd think? Well no complaints and I'll just delete the extra instances. Firefox apologizes and asks if each browser instance needs to be invoked again. Thank you very much for the insight.
