Firefox (36.0.1) running on Mac OS (10.10.2) does not quit while Mail 8.2(2070.6) is running. But if I Quit Mail and then Quit Firefox, Firefox may quit. I often have to use Force Quit to get out of FIrefox. Many automatic reports have been sent when Force Quit was used, and several upgrades of Firefox have been downloaded. But it is still happening.

How to fix this ?

If you are talking about crash reports, they are sent to Mozilla servers for the programing engineers to look at.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

Thx for such quick reply. ... it was not the Crash Reports that concerned me. I was more concerned about fixing the basic problem described above.

In any case, in trying to follow your suggestions, I came across the "Refresh" button to get a fresh copy of the software, and tried that. To my surprise, that does seem to have made a difference !!! So far, the problem has been fixed, and I'll have to see if it returns.

Many thx for your attention...

This turns out to be a recurring problem for me. I have tried downloading a fresh copy of Firefox, but I don't think that is the issue.

I have often seen that Firefox often fails to Quit - if Apple Mail is still running. Sometimes it happens if Apple TextEdit or Apple Preview is running. I don't think any of the other Apple applications (e.g., Pages, Numbers, etc) are contributing to the problem.

When it happens, a Report automatically is sent to Moxilla. Sometimes, I "force quit" and then sometimes "Ignore" sending the Report.

Any ideas ???

If you don't send the report, how can the programers know of the problem?

I have often seen that Firefox often fails to Quit - if Apple Mail is still running. Sometimes it happens if Apple TextEdit or Apple Preview is running . . . . . .

As a text, shut down those programs. Then run Firefox for a while. Does the problem come back?
