I recently updated my Firefox to the most recent version and now all my bookmarks have disappeared.

There is a bookmarks folder in a folder named Old Firefox Data, which is on my desktop but there is just a load of jargon in there.

Please advise how i get my bookmarks back.

Is the bookmarkbackups folder in the current Firefox profile folder empty?

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.

It is possible to recover data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Hi i have tried what you suggested and this hasn't worked.

I only have the options i have to restore my bookmarks are from after the new version had been installed. All of my bookmarks were saved before this version was installed.

Please advise.

Thank you.

You can restore a compressed .jsonlz4 backup from the bookmarkbackups folder in the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.

  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File
