Firefox sync gives 500 error

more options

When I try to set up sync on Firefox (36.0.1 or 38.0.1) using about:accounts?entrypoint=menubar I get a 500 error. If I try going to https://accounts.firefox.com in Firefox I also get a 500 error, but if I try on IE it works just fine. Of course I can't set up sync on IE. It was working on 36 but when I upgraded to 38 I started to get sync error messages. I reinstalled 36, but it still won't sync. I've enabled cookies and disabled Adblock, so there should be no problem. But it just won't work. I've restarted Firefox and restarted the computer several times.
