I have set up my email accounts with the reply email address as the email for that account, all was fine and the correct reply to address was being sent till I setup the SMTP to use my Goggle GMail as this is a laptop and I move around. Since I have set up using GMail as my outgoing server Thunderbird is using my GMail username as my email reply to address in all my email accounts. I have looked everywhere and the only place my GMail address is as my user name in the SMTP server setup. How can I stop it using this GMail address in my accounts and use the reply to address as setup?

Chosen solution

When you set up the gmail smtp service you have to declare an email address to use it with. Regardless of what "from:" address you use, gmail silently replace it with the associated gmail address, as you have worked out yourself.

If you must use the gmail smtp, you need to "connect" your other email addresses to the incoming (pop/imap) gmail account. You register such non-gmail addresses on your gmail settings page on the gmail site.
