Hi,

I recently had to re-install windows. I backed up Thunderbird by copying the profiles folder to a safe location. I have several mail accounts, but they exist on two servers. One of them is optonline.net, a large ISP in the northeast US. The other is my own, which I will call mydomain.com for the sake of this post (I don't want to publish my actual domain).

When I reinstalled Thunderbird (on Windows 8.1, which was since upgraded to Windows 10 Pro) and transferred the contents of my profile folder to the new one that Thunderbird created, only the optonline.net accounts showed up - none of the accounts from "mydomain.com" were in the new installation (even though they were in the old installation). When I tried to manually install the "mydomain.com" accounts I kept getting the error, "thunderbird configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong". However, I am certain that the username and password is correct because I used them to access the email via a browser.

When I looked in the profiles folder (appdata/roaming/thunderbird/profiles/), I found references to the missing accounts. There are several folders in ImapMail which are named with the email account. For example, let's call the email addresses bob@mydomain.com and fred@mydomain.com . In the ImapMail folder are folders named imap.mydomain.com and imap.mydomain-1.com along with files named imap.mydomain.com.msf and imap.mydomain-1.com.msf. I opened the folders and viewed the contents of the INBOX.msf files and it looks like the old emails are int there.

I think the issue is that the accounts are in the profile (due to the fact that I see folders and files named with the server name) but Thunderbird is not picking them up. And because they there, TB will not let me re-create them.

So, I either need help in making TB recognize the files that are there or let me know how I can remove them so I can start them over.

Any ideas why these accounts are not showing up and/or how to fix it? I am running TB 38.1.0.

Thanks in advance!

TB 38.2 is available.

Did you run 38.1.0 before updating to Win 10? What anti virus do you use? Error console (under tools) does it say anything like:

Error: An error occurred during a connection to [domain]:[port] Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s). (Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap) Or (Error code: ssl_error_weak_server_ephemeral_dh_key)

Thats probably caused by: Logjam/weak Diffie-Hellman key mitigation TB 38... requires TLS/SSL security key length >=1024 https://weakdh.org/
