After shutting down following 'not compacting", the contents of the inbox for one of my accounts disappeared. Right clicking on properties returns an empty location box. Repair does not not work. There were approximately 50-75 emails in the box. Left clicking on the inbox starts an endless search. Is there any way to salvage what was there (the other folders in this account are OK).

got to love your saying not compacting. Not compacting is a guaranteed problem, it is only a matter of when.

But I think you problem may be outside of Thunderbird. Check your anti virus programs logs for a file inbox that is may have quarantined or deleted in the recent past.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can't find any evidence of a deletion anywhere. Any other thoughts would be most appreciated.

It did not involve either hotmail or outlook. Surprisingly, after a couple of weeks, it fixed itself without my doing anything.

Thanks to those who responded.
