How to toggle thumbnails
Hello Everyone, I am using Lenovo laptop G585, Firefox 40.0.3 When I open a new tab and before I chose a website to open, I am shown four thumbnails of sites. I know that there are more but I am unable to see them by any means like toggling or scrolling, as there are no scrolling tabs/arrows. The only way I can see more is by deleting one and then another 'pops' into view, this defeats the object of clicking on the thumbnails to return to the required site.
How may I see the thumbnails below those four that are displayed, or how can I get a view of those that are out of sight? Thanks, Colin

Hello Raik, Many thanks for your reply. Although I have found a solution that answered my original question, I shall have a look at the suggestions that you have posted and maybe one will turn out to be more suitable! As with the others, I shall copy and paste your suggestions and keep them for future examination.

Colin

The problem may be low screen resolution or window size: New Tab adjusts the number of tiles based on the (screen) space available for them.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can peep under the hood at about:config and tweak the rows and columns of the browser.newtabpage variety to see if you can get more to show up. Right now the default options in the GUI do not allow for resizing, as far as I can tell.
Hi, you can change the number of tiles on the New Tab page by zooming in or out (Ctrl and + key, or Ctrl and - key).
You may also want to keep the same zoom setting when clicking on a new tab: Type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept the warning, scroll down to browser.newtab.preload and double click on it to change 'Value' from True to False.
It is also possible in about:config to change the maximum number of tiles, by scrolling down to browser.newtabpage.columns (or .rows), then right click > Modify, to set a new number in 'Value.' More - Configuration Editor for Firefox.
As an alternative, you may like to try the add-on New Tab Tools.

Hello Phoxuponyu, Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately there was no result from inserting your words in about:config.
Hello Scribe, Many thanks for your sugesyions. I inserted the "browser.newtabpage.columns" in the 'about:config - after dodging the dragons, and changed the 5 for a 15. I have no positive result at this time, but when I have posted this reply, I shall close Firefox and see if it was successful. Regards, Colin
Changes to about:config need a browser restart to take effect, so you should be all set after you close and open up Firefox again.
Hi Colin, there was one other step in Scribe's reply:
Did you try zooming out? Hold down the Ctrl key and tap the - key once. If that doesn't show enough, repeat another time.
Can you find a good balance of text and tile size? If not, you could use an add-on to manage the page layout. This one is mentioned often on this site: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-tools/
Hello Phoxuponyou and Scribe, The solution in 'about:config' was unsuccessful for both your suggestions. I then went to Add Ons and downloaded New Tab Tools anmd configured it to my requirements. Following the suggestion from Phoxuponyou, I then closed down Firefox. When I opened it again, I had just what I wanted, and more! There were many many thumbnails! I then closed down those I did not require and now have the result I was searching for.
Thanks to you both. Colin.
So far you can't do anything to scroll down to see more in native firefox, no matter what settings you modify, addons in the other hand can add features firefox does not have or can't be modded to. I suggest you use one of these three addons and decide what kind of functionality you want or need (I strongly suggest the last one).
New Tab Tools Has the ability to increase the grid of the thumbnails making them 3x4, 5x8 or any number you want that way you can see more and more most recent sites, the bigger the grid the smaller the thumbnails will look, you can pin your preferred sites and change the thumbnail with a custom image or logo of your licking as you can see in the addon pictures.
New Tab King Will show you a big list of recent and most visited sites, its scrollable so you can see ALL the sites and how many times and frequency you visit them (morning, evening, night). I don't know if you can scroll the thumbnails as you wish to do but this is the closest unless you can actually do, I haven used this addon in the last 5 years but is still updated and maybe has way more features than when I used it.
ViewMarks This one will allow you to browse your bookmarks like the new tab does, all in a tab with thumbnails, the awesome thing is you can also explore the history that way, which may be exactly what you want, go to options and change the new tab to viewmark history and change the order of the thumbnails to be the most used sites, and there you go, scrollable infinite list of recent sites/most used sites.

No problem, I really think you will love ViewMarks, very flexible in the way it manages its thumbnails, reorder, you can even change the background. Good luck.
