After updating Firefox, every time I open the browser a Mozilla page and my home page opens. The Mozilla page say Committed to you, your privacy etc. I have tried several ways to stop this but none of them worked and I would like for Firefox to just open my home page. Note -- Please provide a simple step -by- step solution. I have tried to follow a couple of Mozilla "change your preferences" pages. They are way to general and confusing. I just want Firefox to open only to my home page. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can find the home page setting here:

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Thanks for the reply. Tried all of your suggestions; my profile and hope page settings are correct and there are no multiple home pages separated by the pipe command. So, there is not a “Home Page “ issue; yet the behavior continues. I have kept a log of the sequence of events and time of occurrence. One puzzling thing is the occurrence does not happen on every boot, but when it does happen the sequence of events is repeatable. For reference I am using Windows XP PRO and Firefox ver. 41.0.2 Here is the sequence of events

1 boot to desktop 2 select to start Firefox 3 Firefox starts and opens to home page ---www,yahoo.com 4 In the Firefox URL line type in www.myxfinity.com or www.optionsexpress.com or any other www. xxxx. address and het return 5 Page open to: https://support.mozilla.org/en-USA/kb/getstarted-firefox-overview-main-features. Also displayed in the page is the “path” home>firefox> Learn the basics: Get Started> Get started with Firefox. The requested page typed in step 4 does not open. 6 With the step 5 page https://support.mozilla.org/en-USA/kb/getstarted-firefox-overview-main-features. showing; typing in a new address in the Firefox URL bar goes to the expected page. 7 The step 4, step 5 sequence only happens at initial boot into Firefox. As I mentioned earlier, the step 4, step 5 sequence does not happen at EVERY Firefox start; sometimes it happens 4 or 5 times in a row, then absent for the next 3 or 6 times, then reappear for 1or 2 times.

Would appreciate comments, or suggestions

So that page opens only if you type an address in the location bar and not when you start Firefox?

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and (re)install or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then create a new profile.
