My wife and I have separate emails, both are accessible on Thunderbird. Each time either of us log on, all the messages are gone replaced by very light diagonal pink stripes. The messages for either address can be recovered by right-clicking the address, then clicking the "properties" option, then clicking the "repair" button in the properties box. If we change from one address to the other, all the messages are lost again and the same process must be repeated. Going back to the first address reveals all messages lost again. This has been an issue for several days and I have no idea what brought it on or how to repair it permanently. Any ideas?

I suspect the candy stripes are an indication that there is a filter being applied, probably the QuickFilter bar. When you repair the folder, you reset whatever flag it is that is being filtered and the messages re-appear.

Check your QuickFilter bar and make sure all the filtering options are disabled.
